About the production of the work
At KANJI TOKYO, calligraphy artist MADARA creates and sells completely custom-made calligraphy artwork. We create beautiful, powerful yet delicate kanji characters to suit your needs, whether it’s your name, favorite phrase, motto, or congratulatory message. We also produce everything from “naming cards” (A4 size) for children to large hanging scrolls measuring 1 shaku (100cm) or 2 shaku (200cm). We also create original tote bags and tenugui (hand towels). While we primarily focus on calligraphy artwork, we also produce authentic framed works measuring F30 or F50.

Regarding the finishing of the work
There are various types of mounting (scroll mounting) used to display and protect paintings and calligraphy works, including framing, hanging scrolls, and folding screens.
Below are the main types and characteristics used in art museums and calligraphy exhibitions

| Framed | This is the most common finish for framing works to protect and appreciate them. Framing: We combine wooden or metal frames with matte paper. Calligraphy and Japanese paintings: We can create Japanese frames (Japanese-style wooden or lacquered frames) and floating frames. The surface is protected with glass or acrylic sheet. Minimalist floating frames (which make the work appear to float in the air) have also become popular in recent years. These can be made. *This will be done by a specialist contractor. |
| hanging scroll（Kakejiku） | This is a traditional mounting method in which calligraphy, ink paintings, etc. are mounted in the form of a scroll using fabric (kiriji). Round mounting: A simple method in which top and bottom fabrics are attached. Three-tier mounting: A luxurious method in which multiple pieces of fabric are combined, including top and bottom fabrics, middle fabrics, and wind bands. *This must be done by a specialist. |
| Panel pasting | Paper works are stretched on wooden panels and displayed without a frame. Often used for calligraphy, Japanese painting, watercolors, etc. As the paper is simply pasted on a panel, it does not offer much protection. Prevents warping and gives a modern, casual impression. *This should be done by a professional. |

Regarding the production costs for fully custom-made works
Prices vary greatly depending on the size and content of the work being produced. They also vary greatly depending on the finishing touches and decorations required. For example, the smallest piece, a baby’s name card (A4 size) to be given as a gift, can be produced for around 9,000 to 50,000 yen if written on a special mount and packaged. Mounting a hanging scroll measuring 1 shaku-ni (36cm x 150-190cm) will cost around 100,000 to 400,000 yen. For a work in the F30 size range, depending on the content, the price will be 50,000 to 600,000 yen, with the framing fee added on top. As you can see, prices vary greatly depending on the time and content required for production, so please contact us first. We provide free estimates.
