The worldview of the wor

Artist: MADARA

The worldview of this artwork lies in the subtle presence of emotion—
a quiet moment when something undefined within the heart begins to move.

There is no strong assertion or clear conclusion here.
Instead, the work reflects accumulated time, interwoven emotions,
and an inner movement that slowly rises through lived experience.

Rooted in the black-and-white foundation of Japanese calligraphy,
layers of color are introduced to express emotional depths that cannot be captured by a single tone.
These layers represent hesitation, resonance, memory, and the fragile state before certainty takes form.

In this world, completion and answers are not the goal.
Rather, ambiguity itself is embraced.
Where brushstrokes and colors intersect, subtle changes within the viewer’s inner world are invited to emerge.

Quiet, indistinct, yet undeniably present—
this artwork reveals an interior landscape shaped by feeling rather than form.

Behind the Scenes

This work was not created with a fixed image or clear destination in mind.
Before beginning, there was a quiet accumulation of emotion—
something undefined, waiting beneath the surface, asking to move.

I began with calligraphy, not to shape words, but to align my breath.
There was a period of waiting, allowing the lines to emerge naturally rather than forcing them.

At a certain point, I felt the need to introduce color.
Not vivid primary colors, but tones that overlap, bleed, and blend.
Emotion cannot be spoken through a single color—
my body understood this before my mind did.

My artist name is MADARA.
“Madara-iro,” or mottled color, refers to a state that cannot be defined by one tone alone—
a condition where different elements intermingle without settling into a fixed form.
In this work, I sought to embody that idea through both calligraphy and color.

Throughout the process, I was not aiming for completion.
I kept asking, “What is this?” while continuing to layer brushstrokes and color.
Then, quietly, a moment arrived when the heart shifted.

Only then did the title “Tokimeki” reveal itself.
This work does not depict emotion itself,
but captures the subtle sign just before emotion fully takes shape—
an inner presence expressed as madara-iro, a blending of feelings not yet defined.

Kanji meaning

Tokimeki | Dictionary-style definition

Tokimeki refers to a subtle moment when the heart begins to move from within.
It does not describe intense excitement or outward emotion, but rather a quiet inner shift that occurs before feelings take clear form.

The word carries a nuance of time (“toki”) and emergence—
a sense of emotion or awareness gently arising at a particular moment within the flow of time.
Tokimeki is not limited to romantic excitement;
it can also express anticipation, intuition, realization, or an unspoken emotional signal.

In contemporary usage, tokimeki often points to the moment just before something begins—
a delicate internal movement felt before it can be fully named or understood.
