KANJI TOKYO is an art brand that brings the timeless beauty of Japanese calligraphy into the modern world. Led by calligrapher MADARA, the brand introduces “Hisseki-jutsu,” a calligraphic method that channels prayer, life energy, and love through every brushstroke.
Through five offerings, KANJI TOKYO delivers the living spirit of Sumi ink and prayerful expression to people around the world.
Calligraphy work delivery service
We will create a one-of-a-kind piece of calligraphy as a memento of your visit to Japan.
We will convert your English name or a word you like into “kanji” and turn it into an art panel, a hanging scroll, or a hand towel. We will create a one-of-a-kind piece of work and deliver it to the counter at your hotel.
KANJI TOKYO also exhibits and sells works created by calligraphy artist Madara.
Madara’s works are rooted in the background of life and are imbued with the power to continue to embrace one’s feelings. Devoted to painting and calligraphy from a young age, he has continued to express himself through calligraphy, which he began at the age of five. Although he faced great sorrow in losing his family in the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, he resumed his creative work and began a new path. We hope you will enjoy the trajectory and soul that are embodied in his works.
We are holding a calligraphy workshop in Hiratsuka for people from overseas who love Japanese culture.

He is the only Hisseki-jutsu calligrapher in Japan.Since the age of five, MADARA has studied calligraphy and developed his own unique style that incorporates Hisseki-jutsu. He has created approximately 800,000 pieces including naming calligraphy and sumi-e paintings. Currently, he continues to create art focused on names and meaningful words under KANJI TOKYO.
Handwriting reflects one’s personality and psychology, and there is a field called graphology that analyzes this. Hisseki-jutsu is a technique where the way of writing characters is intentionally changed to bring oneself closer to their ideal self and improve their luck.
