What kind of person was the Shodo artist MADARA?
MADARA is a rare artist who combines “Hisseki-jutsu” and shodo in his work.
“Hisseki-jutsu” is a technique where shodo is written with wishes for good luck and fortune.
He began learning shodo at age 5, training under a master of the All Japan Calligraphy Federation.
In 2000, he found “Hisseki-jutsu” and became fascinated by it. “Hisseki-jutsu” is a method that improves luck through the way you write. He used this method to create his own unique shodo style.
His “naming certificates,” which help improve a child’s future, became very popular. He created about 800,000 of them in 18 years. Additionally, his designs using sumi-e have been highly praised, expanding his range of art.
Now, as a shodo artist for KANJI TOKYO, he creates art pieces based on names and words, carefully crafting each one in his studio in Shonan, Hiratsuka.

What is Shodo?
Shodo is a traditional Japanese art that expresses the heart through writing.
It came from China and developed in Japan, where it was influenced by Buddhism and the practice of copying sacred texts (shakyō).
Even today, despite the rise of digital writing, Shodo is still popular because it helps calm the mind and express emotions. Sometimes, Shodo is also seen as an art form, praised for its beautiful lines and use of space.
Shodo shows important Japanese values, such as “ichi-go ichi-e” (each moment is unique) and “wabi-sabi” (beauty in simplicity).
In modern Japan, Shodo is taught in schools, and there are many Shodo classes available for people of all ages.
Shodo continues to play an important role in Japanese culture.

What is “Hisseki-jutsu” : Writing for Good Luck
Hisseki-jutsu is a special way of writing that can bring good luck. Handwriting is a reflection of personality, emotions, and habits. “Hisseki-gaku” is the study of handwriting, using psychology and statistics to understand character and behavior.
Hisseki-jutsu takes this idea further. By changing how we write, we can shape our future and attract good fortune. Writing with specific styles or forms can help improve talent, fame, health, money, and success luck.
There are many ways to apply Hisseki-jutsu. By combining different elements, a single character can hold multiple wishes. This technique is deep and meaningful, offering a unique way to bring happiness and success through handwriting.
